Samsung Brightside rebuild message

My son went to turn off his phone this morning and noticed that there was a message on his screen that said "rebuild complete" and nothing else was working.  He turned if off and took out the battery.  Put it back in, turned on and still gets the same message.  has anyone else encountered this error??

Let's get your son's phone acting right! That's an usual error message. Anything change with the device since the last time it was working? Any physical or liquid damage? Our best recommendation would be a hard reset; however, the device will need to respond to be able to complete it. You could try to connect it to the charger or to a computer via a usb cable if you have one.  http://tiny.cc/7y527w
