How do I see text on my child's phone without having their phone in my hand?

You need to set up Message+ on a computer. You will need to make or know your child's My Verizon account. Then when you set this up, a text message will be sent to your child's phone to approve the access. There is no way to do this without a notification and approval message on the phone that is going to be monitored. You can view messages by logging into the My Verizon account for the phone in question and going to My Plan and services and then selecting Send a Message.
