Since marshmallow update can't open text message app

Every time I click on the message icon it says text messaging app has stopped working. I'm not seeing anyone else having this problem so I'm nother sure how to go about resolving this issue.

The update to marshmallow 6.0.1 destroyed my life.. (with exceptions to my marriage, job, and anything I do outside the smart phone world). But seriously there's issues with it. I'm concerned im going to fry my battery with how often I charge it now. Just want lollipop back. Seriously want it.

That's understandable. After an OS update, a software update can help with optimization. A factory reset can also help, just make sure your data is backed up before performing a factory reset.
