Lollipop 5.1 update - When will Verizon have it ready so my LG G3 will work again? Lollipop update from Verizon made my great device not much better than a frequently charged pocket heater.

My LG G3 with the Verizon-supplied Lollipop update has turned into a device that needs multiple slow charges per day, gets hot doing nothing, freezes/lags frequently.  Even trying to make a phone call can be absolutely painful as I wait for sometimes minutes just to have the phone number finally dial.  Crazy bad.

I have been reading from other posts that 5.1 supposedly fixes all the lollipop issues (I will believe it when I get it...) but when does Verizon plan to have it available?  Or some sort of fix available?

Go into settings, battery, battery usage and see what app is taking up all of the battery. If there is an app you installed that takes most of the battery, try uninstalling and re-installing. If that doesn't help, try doing a factory reset which will wipe your phone back to like you got it from the store but with lollipop. That should definitely fix it.

As for 5.1 coming out on the G3, don't expect it but if I were to take a guess, it would be this winter that they bring that out.

Screen is 42%

There are no apps that are being logged as using more than 3% battery.  All other are Screen and OS type items.

It is not an app problem.  It is a problem with the OS update.  I can probably assume that since you responded with a typical check battery/apps message that you don't use an LG G3 with Lollipop on it or you might have an understanding of how Lollipop update from Verizon is messing it up.  There are SO many people with the problem, but Verizon is not coming out recognizing it or offering a timeline for a solution.

Verizon can't do anything about it until LG sends out 5.1 to the G3. If LG does send it. That's when the back and forth testing of the update will take place between LG and VZW.

Same problem with mine and thousands of others. Worked perfectly before the update - now useless. How about someone from Verizon answering this thread? If you want to hang onto us as customers, we need to know you are going to fix this and when.

Actually I do have a Verizon G3 with stock 5.0.1 and it works fine except for the ipv6 wifi notification issue. I get 12 hours of usage out of it. Have you factory reset your phone after the update? That will probably fix it. You can use lgs backup service to make the restore quick. Please don't attack me next time. I'm trying to help because I've been through the same thing.

Absolutely ridiculous what happened to all of us G3 users!!!!

My phone is bad now too, just like EVERYONE else.  How could this happen?  I dont get notifications when on WIFI, not even google notifications.  Bunch of garbage VZW and LG are for pushing this on their customers with no fix in sight....

Did anyone actually try to:

Factory Reset with alternative method?

Applies even if you already downloaded and installed as well. (skip #5 if so)

Once you get the notification that the update is available or has already downloaded, BUT has yet to install:

  1. 1.  Stay plugged into charger for the entire process
  2. 2.  Charge to 100% and back up music, photos, files etc...contacts should be saved to Google Account and use Google Drive or Google Photos to back up with as well and apps are saved in a list in your My Apps screen in the Play Store app and online using the desktop page.
  3. 3.  DISABLE Google backup and restore of apps and app data in your Backup and Reset tab in your phone's main settings screen.
  4. 4.  Factory Reset the phone
  5. 5.  Download and/or Install update from notification bar (may have to manually check for update in About Phone/System Update to kickstart it) at next boot/power on after skipping set up if possible
  6. 6.  Phone will reboot after installation.  Factory reset one more time as soon as possible before setting up the phone (you may have to press the back button a few times to escape the set up screen, or you may be able to skip it.  Just go back to the Backup and Reset tab and FDR again.
  7. 7.  Unplug from charger at 100% recharged
  8. 8.  Set up your phone however you like to include apps from your My Apps screen in either the Play Store App or from the PC webpage version
  9. 9.  Leave phone on until it powers off
  10. 10.  Leave off and recharge to 100%

This is my usual process and I have had no issues.

The reasons for disabling app data is due to the fact that DAVLIK is now ART and the Android Optimization process might not go as planned if you just slap the new OS over the old OS.  Also, when you go back to the Play Store to download apps, they will be the correct version this time for this OS.
