Can't send email because storage space is low

I have a Droid Maxx. I can no longer send email, because "storage space is getting low. Service has been disabled." I have nearly 2 gb of free space, and ~800 mb of my 2 gb of RAM available, though. What is stopping me from sending email?

Could it be the email account on your server is low on space, not the phone?  What email is it - something like Yahoo or Gmail, or a custom domain email?
