Here’s my experience with switching to Verizon from T-Mobile.   We switched for better cell coverage and are paying $80 more a month for this cruddy journey.

Switching was difficult.  Spoke to a representative in chat who stated she couldn’t give us a bill estimate for moving four lines over.  Told us we could do the switch in a store, so we drove over an hour to the closest one, for them to tell us they can’t do the same incentives and wouldn’t be able to help us.

Did the switch on July 5th, was told they would send us 4 new sims in 48 hours.  We only got three of our SIM cards, and had to go to an authorized realtor to pay $10 out of pocket for one.

Data and texting reception suuucks.  If you have under four bars, you won’t be able to access any website, even though it still says LTE.

Good luck with customer service.  They will claim to look into any issues in chat, but will ghost you….. done it to me 4 times.  Forget getting anyone on the phone for the port service, or even getting a call back.  Schedule an appointment? Nope, they won’t call you back but will send you a message saying that they are sorry they missed you.

As of this writing, I’ve been listening to their cruddy theme music for over twenty minutes waiting to talk to anyone about why we can’t get calls in.

Submitted my request for the $650 byod gift card for four lines, but judging by the forums, that’s a pipe dream.

Hey Verizon, where’s my code for the free stream TV you advertise on your page but NONE of your reps seem to know about?

Coverage isn’t anything to write home about.  If the $650 gift card for 4 lines doesn’t come through, I’m switching back to T-Mobile.  With military discount, you only pay $100 for four lines with fees and taxes. My monthly bill with Verizon will be $180.  They won’t fix your problems and don’t take their customers seriously or even care about them.

25 minutes still on hold…

Update: 45 minutes later got to tier 1 support that went through the usual: turn it off, turn it back on.  Transferred to tier 2.  Issue appeared to resolve..:but it’s not.  Now I get to waste another hour trying to call back.

Update 2:

in chat, tier 2 support is saying the SIM cards that Verizon sent us aren’t compatible with our phones…..

seriously?

And update 3:

From rep: “I have looked into this and confirmed that this device must be activated on Verizon Wireless Prepaid service and first monthly payment must be made before it can be used in your month to month plan”

I brought this phone over from T-Mobile, and used it on a local carrier before that. I’ve owned this phone for 3.5 years.  Cmon Verizon, why.

Update 6: driving an hour to nearest Verizon store after chat technical support suggested factory resetting my phone.  Ugh.

Also received my first bill, which includes the activation fees they promised to waive.

I'm sorry to hear your horrible experience. There are many similar stories here. I know this won't help you but I want to say that I just had the complete opposite experience that you are dealing with.

I was with Verizon since 1993. I live in a major metro area. I read an article about T-Mobile's 30-day test drive. I downloaded the eSIM so I still used my Verizon service for calls and texts.

Here were my findings, not only at home but as I traveled around my city and county:

Verizon- 1 to 3 bars, download speeds of 3 to 12 MB/s of 4G, 5G is nonexistent even though Verizon's map shows my entire county covered with 5G. Nope. My Apple Watch would only receive cellular on a hill in my backyard.

T-Mobile- 3 to 4 bars, download speeds of 85 to 170 MB/s of BOTH 4G and 5G. T-Mobile's coverage map at this point appears to be accurate. My Apple Watch receives 3 to 4 bars of cellular everywhere, inside and outside. Even in my basement I get one or two bars. Verizon?........zip!

I made an appointment at T-Mobile to switch. The rep took me right on time. He had to work a little to get my 28 year old number to port, but he got it done in about 20 minutes.

Cost-

Verizon- $116/month for iPhone, one Apple Watch, iPad (and usually slow service that crawled) on the Get More plan.

T-Mobile- $60/month for iPhone, two Apple Watches (and blazing speeds) on the 55+ Magenta Plan. (I can add my iPad for $15 a month if I choose.)

We will soon move my wife's phone to my plan for ONLY another $20/month.

I would have never thought I would be with T-Mobile. Their service for years was a joke. But with taking over Sprint they have additional frequency bands to use. And they are seriously upgrading their service. Verizon is big on talk, their deceitful coverage map and promoting themselves but talk is cheap. And while I lost my Discovery+ free service, I will pay the $7 a month for that. Big deal.

I wish you luck. Again, I know this doesn't help you but there are so many troublesome stories here, I needed to express my joy of finally having great, fast service at a FAIR price.

Hello ImReallyPayingforThis,

We always want the best experience for all of our customers. We are saddened to hear this has not been the case for you. We are here to help. There are several concerns you are having so we want to address them one at a time. What exactly is going on with the service on your devices? Why did we ask you to perform a factory reset? Is this only happening on one device or all of your devices?

Hello!

Two of my phones can receive calls from outside numbers that are not on the Verizon network. Landlines can’t call, mobile numbers can’t call.

Why do they want to factory reset? I don’t know.  I drove an hour to the nearest store yesterday, and they worked on it for 3 hours before settling on factory resetting.  They were helpful, but this issue has been going on for two weeks.

Customer service fixed the activation fees last night.

I still haven’t got my code for the Verizon stream tv.
