ending up with insurance that you didn't ask for

After the last update in November my Pixel 2XL failed in all areas.  The battery turned extremely hot and would be drained after 2 hours.  Even while plugged into the charger. I took it to the Verizon store and the technician could not access anything on my phone.  Plus, he noted how hot it was while he watched the battery level drop before his eyes. He said he would order a replacement phone but since I didn't have insurance, he activated it to order the phone but would de-activate it after he placed the order.  He didn't do that. I was billed for a partial month along with a new month. I was told it was a legitimate charge.  Not when I didn't ask for it to begin with.  Plus, the phone didn't fail because of something I did.  It's frustrating!

Just a thought but if you're having a issue with battery heating up this is possibly a issue with update know few other recent reports on same problem could be related I would contact the manufacturer and if there is a support board option may find it listed

That's called insurance fraud.
