I have two lines on my account, one of which is a 3G flip phone my grandmother keeps for emergencies in her car. I know the 3G phone will no longer work after the 4G change over, so Id' like to give her an old Blackberry Classic to use. The Classic I currently have on another line works on the 4G network, but I can't get a clear answer as to 1. whether my own Classic will still work after the change over (I feel like it should since it appears to be picking up 4G and 4TG LTE now) and 2. whether we can activate another Classic to replace the flip phone?
Let's get you a straight answer. The IMEI of the device is going to be needed. Here is how to find it.:
https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-146000/
Once you have that, enter it into the "Enter Device ID" box here:
https://www.verizonwireless.com/checkesn/
What are your results?
It tells me that the IMEI for my current Classic (that's already activated) will work with the network, but when I go here https://www.verizon.com/onedp/byod#/deviceType it tells me it can't be activated. I don't have an IMEI for our proposed new phone yet because I don't want to spend the money if I can't activate it.
The mixed messages are occurring based on your BlackBerry Classic already being active on your number. If it was not active then you'd be able to proceed through the Bring Your Own Device website.
The results from the "Enter Device ID" website tell me for sure that:
1. your own Classic will still work after the changeover.
2. you can activate another Classic to replace the flip phone
Thank you!
