hi, I just upgraded from the 9.7 or called version 6 to iPad mini. I did the direct transfer and since it was an upgrade the transfer went perfect. now the 9.7 does not show in my devices anymore but still has phone number listed in the info on ipad.
I am trying to transfer everything from an Ipad air to the 9.7. If I do device to device transfer instead of cloud will the 9.7 upgrade the phone number assigned to the air to the 9.7 ?.

The mini is for me upgrade from the 9.7 everything transferred perfect.
now I also have an ipad air that is going to be replaced with the 9.7. the air is my granddaughters who has autism and needs all apps, data etc transferred to the 9.7
I tried a restore from cloud but the phone # stayed the same as the mini I upgraded to.

hopefully I will try this weekend. I will use the transfer device option to have the 9.7 get the cell # from the Air correct ?
during this it asks where to send text for code, my only option is to my cell phone and it says it will check the device sim for compatibility. is this step checking the 9.7 ipad or is it going to mess up my phone ?
when i said my only option I meant to recieve a text was to my phone
