clely45,

The last thing that I want to hear is that you are having issues with your phone. Being able to ensure that your data is working the way that it should is absolutely important. When did you start having overage? Did anything change on the phone as far as your usage goes? We are here to help in any way that we can.

Have you checked your iPhone 5 to see what is using lots of data?

OK, so go to Settings, then click on cellular, and scroll down. You will see a list of apps and the amounts of data they've used in a certain alotted time, and switches to the right. This will tell you where your data is going. Best thing to do is to turn off the switches next to the apps that use the most, and this will make it so that your iphone will only use wifi data for these apps, which won't get charged to you on your bill.

To make a long story short, the biggest help to get my wife's iPhone 5c 8GB excessive data usage under control, was to keep it connected to a power source. This keep it from going dormant, which would keep it connected to any available WiFi. Because by design, the iPhone will drop or disconnect from any WiFi source when it goes dormant.

I have the iPhone 5c and it stayed on wifi for me even when not using it. I've checked VZW data billing and it checks out.

This issue happened to me in November 2013 as well.  It took 2 months before it was fixed by Verizon 13.1.  Is Verizon working with Apple to fix this bug?  I have been using less than 2GB of data on my plan since the resolution back in early 2014.  It seems that now there is another issue and VZW clearly knows about it because, after receiving the first notice back in December that I had used 50% of my data before even the mid-point of my billing cycle, I received a nice email from VZW offering me extra data for the "holiday shopping season" for free.  I took that data and nearly used all of it as well!  Then when that ended, I received another notice in January that I was at 50% usage, then 75% then 90%!  Now into February, I received a notice that I was at 50% usage on with 24 days remaining in the billing cycle.  That notice was followed by a nice offer to upgrade from my 4GB plan to a 6GB plan for no extra costs - at all!  Clearly VZW recognizes there is an issue.  Now, with 10 days left till the end of my billing cycle, I received a 90% usage notice with an reminder that I could upgrade to 8GB for $15. To avoid the outrageous overage charges I would have faced, i took the upgrade.  BUT remember, I have not gone over 2GB in all the years of being a VZW customer EXCEPT for the overage issues that began in 2013.  It all seems a bit familiar and is completely frustrating. Before you ask, because I know you will put this back on me, I have NOT changed my usage habits, I do not watch videos or play video games on my laptop, tablet or phone...this is not something I am doing.  My phone even uses data when I am on the WiFi in my office!  VZW needs to address and refund its customers for the higher data plans we are being forced to upgrade to in order to avoid overage charges.  Please reply promptly with the solution.  Thank you.

I am delighted to see there are others having the same issue as I. As I

surf all the related posts on the same topic, I don't know how Verizon can

continue to IGNORE the problem like it is our fault. It is definitely an

iPhone5 issue that needs to be addressed. FIX IT!!!
