Not getting emails and calendar alerts on my iPhone 4S

My email and calendar alerts stopped working on August 4th, the day I was forced to change my password in my gmail acct.  I have tried everything (both old AND new password) and nothing is working.  A box pops up saying: Cannot Get Mail. The user name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect.  I can retrieve my e-mail by going through the Internet process but not from the icon on my phone.  Any suggestions??

Problem has been resolved. Took phone to iMac Store. There was a verification setting that was ON and needed to be turned OFF.
