I have an app that's frozen; how do I unfreeze it?

My phone is 3 days old, I'm taking it slow; my granddaughter tried to add an app for me and it froze.  It would of been my first app.  How do I unfreeze it?

Maybe it's the phone that froze. Press and hold power and the circle button on the phone with a square in it. It will reboot. If that doesent work uninstall the app and put it in again. Sometimes it's the app that messes it up but lets hope not. What app is it?

Thanks Gina; I ended up doing some overkill; someone told me to uninstall and when I clicked on something everything got uninstalled but since the phone had little in it it didn't matter; just had to start over like a new phone which 'unfroze' the one app which was Tides. 

I will do it different next time but alas, sometimes the biggest mistake is a way to learn.
