Hotspot usage on iphone 4

I have been using my iphone4 hotspot occasionally and i would like to know if this takes from my data jpackage or is it charged differently? Does anyone know how this works? I need internet for college and I dont know if this would be sufficient or do I need to contact my internet provider and get something set up at home. Can anyone help?? thanks

If you have unlimited reg data plan then it's seperate. If you have everything plan it's combined and easily changeable to your needs. Also tiered data plans its combined if you add the feature and you can go up in plan on that too.
