Why is there a 3-second delay when switching call from 4G to wifi?

No matter what wifi network I'm on, when a call is moved to wifi calling, there is a 3-second period where neither party can hear the other.  My customers are hanging up on me thinking I'm not there.

When your phone is making a call over Wi-Fi (or VoLTE) it is being redirected through in this order:

End User > Router Access Point > ISP > Cell Tower > Mobile Switching Center > Cell Tower > Other Caller

When you switch off of Wi-Fi Calling onto regular 1x:

End User > Router Access Point > ISP | <BREAK> | > End User > Cell Tower > Mobile Switching Center > Cell Tower > Other Caller

Because it's switching networks. Can't you ask the customer to hold for several seconds?

I don't think there should be more than a half second delay when making this switch.  Seriously, when people call me, it's silent for 3 seconds before they can hear me even say hello.  They are hanging up on me.  I wish there was a way to default it to wifi calling if available.

Well there is going to be nothing as good as a good old fashioned pots line. You could get a landline and have your called forwarded to it.

I'm going to try turning on airplane mode then turning on wifi.  Maybe it will be a shorter delay?
