Not sure how you are defining "phone's resources" so I'll give a couple answers

1) Does LTE use battery faster than 3G and 4G - No. When LTE first came out, this was true, as it was not yet efficient and the chips used more energy. However, now that is resolved and LTE is more power efficient than the older items. A large part of that is it can download a lot more in a shorter period of time, so it can be active for less time, thus using less battery.

2) Does LTE use more data - This is tricky, but the quick answer is yes. If you just download a file, of course it is not any bigger and it just downloads faster. However with LTE audio and video will generally download at higher quality and thus more data. It will also buffer more of what you are streaming in case you switch off, most of the file may already be downloaded, as opposed to slower rates where it may just keep ahead of what you are seeing or hearing. Even with web browsing, you browse more since pages load faster, and video and audio on the page will load more into a buffer. You do more in the same time, so you may say you are doing the same things, but in reality you are doing more and the device is downloading more in that time. It is not unusual to double or triple data use going from 3G to LTE, much less increase though from 4G (HSPA) to LTE.
