The upcoming HP Elite X3 will not be picked up by ANY carriers, but that doesn't mean it won't be supported. Verizon still uses and insists on CDMA so if the manufacturers include the necessary radios (supporting all Verizon's frequencies) then you'll be able to use it on Big Red. But like so many others have said, it's up to the manufacturers.

Only if the manufacturers of the Windows phones actually makes a compatible phone.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

That's up to manufacturers to decide.

I am beginning to doubt it.  Why would any manufacturer want to deal with the headache of both getting FCC certification, then turn around and jump through the lengthy and to a large extent needles testing that Verizon seems fond of requiring. If GSM phones pass FCC testing, they are basically good to go from there.

If VZW is not willing to actively market Windows phones like they do Apple toys and Android junk, or even keep Windows phones in their stores, does anyone wonder why the OEMs are all looking at going solely GSM-based?  Verizon is lagging behind in making the switch to VoLTE simply because they don't want to have to spend the additional money all at once for more towers which VoLTE will require since it is basically the same as GSM-base LTE.  Higher frequency signals require closer spaced towers, due to the fixe output wattage they are allowed to transmit/receive at.

Why else would they keep CDMA tech?  As long as they can milk that cash cow using existing hardware, their profits will stay up.

Once they have to compete in the LTE arena with AT&T and T-Mobile, then they are facing real competition, something they don't have with Sprint and US Cellular, both of which are too small to hurt VZW.

The reason why they require CDMA still...

Go to Korea and you'll see they still use lower networks even if they have 5G on the burner. They are moving forward but can't abandon the old networks yet. Eventually they'll move away from it when even FCC regulation catches. E911 for example still requires a catch can and some roaming partners are not using LTE and still use CDMA. So until then CDMA will be required much like other US carriers that don't use CDMA still need to support GRPS as well as GSM.
