Why do I have signal bars but no service icon?

I have a Samsung galaxy S5 that has full five bars of signal but no icon and I can't send texts, make calls, or get on the internet. After a few minutes of this is goes to grey signal bar outline with a grey x next to it saying I have no signal. Any ideas?

I figured it out. I had to manually select the network provider through the mobile networks.
