If there is no contract on the tablet, you can cancel the line of service.  If there is a contract on the tablet, you can still cancel but it will cost you an ETF, the amount would be determined by how much of the contract is left.

Is there contract time remaining?

No maam no contract it is on a line on my account. I can cancel that service but I don’t know how to make it wifi only so I can use my smart phone hotspot.

Once you cancel the line associated with the tablet, I would suggest removing the SIM card from the device if it has one.

Once you cancel Verizon service, it will only connect to the internet via wifi, as the cellular connection no longer exists.  As Ann154 said, remove the SIM card, and turn on wifi - you should be good to go!
