Verizon uses CDMA as primary. GSM phones are not compatible with CDMA.

Thank you for your valuable reply, but would also love to know, that if I get some US version unlocked device which operates on CDMA technology, then will I be able to use the network or not

My advice is to find a Verizon-branded device at a Verizon store when you arrive in New Jersey. That is the least confusing path to take.

I would suggest looking at using one of the locally available GSM carriers in New Jersey if you want to use your own phone (Lumia 730). T-Mobile or AT&T or one of their prepaid options might work best.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

You will HAVE to buy a phone from Verizon, or an authorized Verizon reseller, for it to work on Verizon. They will not activate a phone on the Verizon network that they did not sell themselves.
