use old iphone for texting

I have an old Iphone 4s, and want to set it up to use when on vacation. I would use it for text, and maybe 20 mins a month talk. I dont want to spend 40$ a month for this. Can I just buy text and talk for 30 mins or something?

I don't believe you can.  Maybe there's a prepaid plan you can go to?

Just remember...if you want to use iMessage, you must be on WiFi or have a data plan.  iMessage does not use the texting portion of a plan.

The cost depends on the type of plan you have, post-pay or prepaid. If you have post pay you have a line access fee of $40.00 with a More Everything. This applies to all smartphones and cannot be removed. In addtiion, you do not have the option to simply purchase minutes. However, if you're referring to global travel, you have options for global plans but the basic fees apply for plan and line access.
