no service

I have the "no service" icon on my phone.  I cannot receive or make calls.  I have turned the phone on and off.  what can I do???

Did you try turning the phone off, removing the SIM card for 30 seconds, reinstalling it and reboot the phone then give the phone a few minutes to connect to the network.
