I'm planning on getting a new phone, but I would like to maintain/transfer my text history. Is this possible, or will everything be erased once I activate the new device?

sugarymama,
That is a great question! I can understand wanting to save your messages and we'd be happy to help. Do you know if you have ever set up or used the iCloud service? That would be one way to back this information up. As well, you would also be able to use iTunes to back up your device and it's content. Take a look at these resources from Apple's Support page to see how to backup with iCloud or iTunes http://spr.ly/6583fIjL.
Also, we do offer our own cloud back up service called Verizon Cloud that you would be able to use. With Verizon Cloud you would be able to back up your data to your online My Verizon account for easy access and transfer when changing devices. Take a look here for more info http://spr.ly/6584fIj0. And if you would like to set it up on your device you can see how here http://spr.ly/6585fIjF.
