You would either need to be using VOLTE (Advanced calling) or connected to wifi.

Plus.. I don't want to waste my data on phone calls, plus LTE calling really sucks because I'm driving most of the time and its not stable enough for that...

To use visual voicemail, HD calling, Video calling and VoLTE Advanced Calling, you must have a data connection over LTE. AC/HD Calling does not use Data allowance. It uses data, it requires data, but it does not count towards your data allowance.

Although using video while calling VOLTE does count toward your data allowance.
As far as I know crowsnestitsupport you have never been able to simultaneous voice and data unless connected to wifi while calling, with the addition of VOLTE you can now do the same while not on wifi (with the additional restrictions of VOLTE of course). Correct me if I'm wrong Snn5

You are VERY wrong. VZW has supported simultaneous voice calling and mobile data ever since the launch of 4g LTE. I have had 8 VZW 4G LTE phones prior to this one and all supported it.
And oh BTW, after an hour on the phone with VZW support and demanding to speak to tier 2 tech support, I got a fellow who knew exactly what I was talking about and fixed it in 2 minutes.
According to him, most of the new phones, IE, both iPhone 6 models, both new S6 models, M9 and Moto turbo all come with simultaneous voice and mobile data disabled out of the box,
To enable, you simple need to enable, HD calling feature, reboot your phone and bingo.... All is well..
You shouldn't tell people lines of crap if you haven't a clue what your talking about..

In other words: You have to have VoLTE and a capable phone to even enable HD Calling to begin with.

Negative, the tier 2 tech who fixed it for me was very specific about the fact that this HD calling feature that HE enable on the BACK end was NOT, I repeat, NOT VOLTE, the 2 are not related in any way, as a matter of fact he went so far as to say that the M9 is not even set up yet for VOLTE yet...
