messenger stopped & talk to text only sparatic
SparkyWhipcracker

My Droid Maxx has been acting up.  Constantly getting the "unfortunately  messaging has stopped"  and lots of times when I am driving and it is in Drive mode the talk to text doesn't respond.  Also showing as if I have a new message but open my messages and nothing is there.  Have shut down, restarted, cleared cache and data and that is about as tech savvy as I get.  Anything else I can try?  I have seen messages about 3rd party message apps, do those use your data plan?

I'd update first to see if that alone resolves the problem. The software is way out of date. System version 19.6.3  alone I believe has been updated twice since then.

Open the Play Store then go to the top left menu, has 3 slash marks.Tap on that and go to settings. Make sure there is a check mark in - Notifications. Then tap on Auto-update apps, in there you can configure how you'd like to receive updates. I seem to think - Do not auto update apps was checked? Because the Droid Maxx has updated frequently in the past month.

Go to Menu > Settings > Data usage and make sure Mobile data is turned on.

Go to Menu > Settings > scroll down to System and tap on System updates then tap on Check for system updates.

SparkyWhipcracker, just to check something on the Droid Maxx, has it had all the updates for the system and apps being used? Has the Droid Maxx been receiving regular updates?

If you go to menu > settings, and scroll all the way down to About phone. Under System Version, what's the exact system version showing in there?

I think it is up to date, I put everything to up date automatically.

System version 19.6.3.obake-maxx_verizon.Verizon.en.US

Android version 4.4

The system version is way out of date along with the android version. So I'd suspect the apps are as well. You should do all the updates and then go from there. You may want to do the updates with wifi, don't know what you have for data, likely you'll use a good amount with the updates, where they haven't been done in so long. If you need help with doing that post back. If I'm not here there are many here that can assist you.

The system version you should have:

24.3.7.obake-maxx_verizon.Verizon.en.US

Android version should be - Kit Kat 4.4.4

Ok I have no idea how to manually update. I thought it was doing it

automatically... If you could tell me how to do that I would appreciate it

and I will have to try it tonight when I get home.

Thanks so much for your help

Ok I have done updating. The auto update box is checked so I am not sure

why it wasn't doing it all along. Thank you for your help, so far no more

error messages and it appears that all messages are coming and going

appropriately.
