Hello rajad! I can certainly help you today! Just to confirm, have you already backed up your old Droid M to Verizon Cloud? http://vz.to/J7MvdV You'll want to do this first and then you'll be able to restore the info onto your Galaxy S 5. Keep us posted, thanks!

Are you trying to connect the 2 phones together for a direct wifi type of connection? Back up your contacts to Google, use a PC to transfer files over to the other phone.

You could use FTP to transfer files as well. I use Filezilla client on a PC, and SwiFTP side loaded as a server on my Android Tablets and LGG2. There are other clients and servers out there. Never tried going direct Android to Android, but numerous file manager programs in the market probably support FTP with client and server functionality.

Lets look at it one step at a time..
Your old phone must be active on Verizon Network to back up to Verizon cloud. It will not backup with wifi.
DId you back up the old phone? Was it set to auto backup?
ONce the old phone is backed up. THEN. You activate the new phone and restore your information From Verizon cloud.
AS far as I know the NFC will not work Between Droid M and GS5

WiFi Direct will work between 2 devices using a 3rd party software. WiFi can be used to back up info without an active Verizon line, just not to Vzw Cloud. There is still the point that one can use a PC to transfer files from a device whether it is active or not.

has anyone accused you of being a gadget geek? No? LOL.
I start with conventional backup and restore. But as my gadgets have increased, I have branched into using Google drive and DropBox for much of my information and save my contacts to my gmail account.
not that a backup has ever failed me, but I have trouble trusting what I can't see.
