Can I activate a prepaid phone onto my existing contract?

I Bought a prepaid Verizon exceed2 phone off of craigslist and I can't seem to activate it on my existing Verizon phone number. Is it possible or did I get screwed?

I have heard it mention on the forums that a prepaid phone has to be active as prepaid for 6 months before you can use it on a contract plan if that's what you are trying to do.  Mary
