Thinking of switching to t-mobile. Way cheaper service for 2 lines. Anyone have experience with them?

T-mobile will give me 2 lines with unlimited calls, text, and data (slow data after 1 gig) for $80 per month. I'm paying about $160 now for 2 lines with 4 gigs.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to give t-mobile a try but wanted to know if anyone has tried them and then come back to verizon.

You should know their coverage is not near as good as Verizon and you may not even have 4G in your area. Also you do realize you have to pay full price for your phone with T-Mobile either outright or over 24 months. T-Mobile no longer subsidizes phones. So depending on what phones you want that could be another $50 or more per month on your bill. Or $130 total. If you lowered your data to the same 1 GB on Verizon you bill would be $130. T-Mobile's "slow" data is 2G which is useless. Basically dial-up speed.

Let me give you some sage advice, don't do it.

Unlimited Talk, Text and 4G LTE data was $70 now is $80

a second line now is $70 for $150 plus taxes and surcharges, you also must add in the cost of two new devices so lets say at $600 each that will be roughly another $50 so its $200+

They have never gotten my bill correct since day one, they add on things you did not request, they also like to text you constantly with reminders to pay your bill, etc. They say they can do it.

And for a giggle I quit them in November 2013 and paid my last invoice in full and had a zero balance, then they sent me another invoice for another month even though I paid up before my bill closing date. They are to this very day now sending me credit invoices for 5 cents. Yep 5 cents and spending .45 cents each month to mail it to me. They are a terrible company.

Stay very clear from them.

Customer service although easier to get a hold of and the do have email support are like everyone else. Lying and putting you off.

The 4G service was good, and coverage is very spotty outside major cities. However depending on the device you may be able to avail yourself of wifi calling. Trust me for the small coverage they provide you will need it.

Good Luck

Well Elector what do you expect? They are gaining customers with their Uncarrier plan but still losing money because of their lowballing so there is no money for customer service or correct invoicing. Something's got to give.

Actually I don't set my expectations too high.

T-Mobile is bleeding money. They have raised their service rates, taking away corporate discounts for new customers, and basically are using gimmicks to gain short term revenue to just stay in the game.

The Wall Street Journal has stated Verizon and AT&T are on stable footing and have loads of customers and cash.

Sprint although having growing pains has all the Soft-bank capital it needs so that leaves T-Mobile who although maybe shaking up the industry are set to fail. They are in huge debt and borrowed against their stock, cash poor and the gimmicks they are using are short term.

Billing should be cut and dry. If I buy a service for $70 plus taxes and surcharges it then becomes $82 take away 15% corporate discount makes it $70 total each month. That is not rocket science.

I pay the same invoice to Verizon each month and it never changes except for a few pennies.

Not $70 this month, $85 next month, change the bill date mid stream and then have to pay -/+ $$ because of the bill change date etc. you get the point.

I am not a supporter of T-Mobile on any level. Terrible service and terrible coverage. I am thankful we just tried them for our spare line. They were the worst.

Good Luck

I agree T-Mobile is doom to fail but people don't see it. They just talk about how great they are and how bad the others are. They say stuff like "Well if T-Mobile can do this and that how come the others can't? GREED" No, T-Mobile can do it because it's as you say bleeding itself dry.

People say the others should be more like T-Mobile. Well T-Mobile ended subsidies and started monthly payment plans for full priced phones. The others have these plans which are optional but don't be surprised if they DO act like T-Mobile and kill off subsides very soon. T-Mobile killed off discounts. Well watch the other kill of discounts. Is this what people meant by "act like T-Mobile"? Be careful what you wish for. I also see T-Mobile raising rates again within 6-12 months or kill off the unlimited data plan.

You are absolutely correct. I feel that subsidies and discounts will go away saving billions of dollars to the carriers. The so called uncarrier will probably get gobbled up or just go out of service.

They complain to the FCC and want special rules to prevent Verizon and at&t on bidding on all the 600 MHz spectrum that will be auctioned next year. With all their debt how is T-Mobile even going to be able to bid on any spectrum in the first place? Does the FCC take IOUs. What irks me is I KNOW for a fact they still won't expand to areas outside the big cities when they get that 600 MHz spectrum which is what this spectrum is made for anyway. How are they competition for Verizon and at&t when they ignore 1/3 of the US population? At least I know when Verizon get it's share of that spectrum it will actually benefit me.

Well if VZW wants to cut the subsidized phones, I would welcome that as I don't buy phones from them anyway.  Talk about a gimmick.  I gave up buying phones from VZW a while back as I just got tired of having 2 year contracts.  I buy my phones either EBAY or some such other place that sells phones without contracts.  I have purchased many phones and tablets etc without issue.  I have also sold my phones in the same way to others.  People need to stop chasing that carrot the VZW and other companies dangle in front of them.  It is not as sweet as they say it is once you partake.  I am free to end my service with VZW and start service with any other provider I choose.  Yes, please stop the subsidies sell customers what they want and provide the service to these customers they expect.  Subsidies are just the gimmick they use to make people think they are either giving you a phone or selling it to you at a cheap price when customers end up paying for that phone over the next 24 months and if the customers break the phone they still have the contract to fulfill and they don't have a phone to use.  They have to use the insurance VZW sells you on a per month charge and then also pay $100 for a refurbished phone which everyone I know of say they are junk phones which never work correctly.  They buy a phone from VZW or somewhere else.  Really phone companies should not be allowed to sell it's customers a phone.  Phones should be purchased from other retail outlets only such as Best Buy.  Service providers such as VZW should only sell phone service.
