How do I turn off automatic updates?

We just got 2 new phones and have already gone through 5g, what is eating up our data and how so we stop it. wifi is off.

For one thing, turn your wifi on and use it when ever you can. To keep your apps from using data while updating, Go to the play store, tap on settings (soft key left side of home button), click settings, click Auto-update apps, click Auto update over Wifi only. App updating uses a lot of data, so its best to use this feature only with wifi.
