Droid Maxx HD Microphone issues - the microphone goes off suddenly

I have been using this phone Droid Maxx HD since October last year and I have had it replaced with a refurbished one once and I am contemplating dumping the phone completely because I still have the same issue with it.

When I am talking on the phone, suddenly the microphone will go off and people on the phone cannot hear me at all. The only way to get the microphone working again will be for me to put it to speaker and then switch back to headset or vice versa. This will only get it to work for another 3-5 minutes before the same issue repeats again. In some cases, I'll have to shutdown the phone and restart for it to work again. I've gone to the Verizon store techs and they could not tell me what is wrong, I've called their tech support, they also couldn't explain what is wrong and they experienced the same issue while I was on the call with them.

This is getting really frustrating because Verizon can't seem to know why this is happening and they are not even trying to find a solution to the issue....am I the only one having the issue or is this something happening out there?

Misery loves company. Got the phone in November and three months later, the microphone stopped working. I notice multiple complaints about the Motorola Droid Maxx on the web, but have not seen a fix for this problem.

Sound's like the both of you have this Model listed below,  at the Verizon stores it isn't even available and there selling the accessories at half price off, So I'd say they'd probably set you up with a certified good as new one or possibly put you in a new Droid Maxx  XT 1080  just like mine if there totally out of stock of the HD's, Have you tried power cycling or clearing of the Cache or Factory Reset?  you might try that see if might possibly help if it does not then I would see if a Verizon Store would then replace it for ya because of a Mechanical issue that is totally out of your hands.. and you fix..

Hope that helps b33

B33,

Thanks for your reply. Per your suggestion I have tried power cycling and factory reset and cache clearing that didn't work. Some one from one of the Verizon Wireless' stores around me tried the same thing and it didn't work. So I honestly think this is a major issue and Verizon has been ignoring it. I guess they do not have a lot of customers using the phone, which speaks volume on the performance of the phone. I will look into the XT or Ultra and will have to talk to Verizon on that. Thanks again for your input.

Let's end this misery golflover. Have you tried the troubleshooting steps that B33 provided? The link is for Droid Razr Maxx HD, but the same steps are applicable to your phone. I would recommend clearing the cache partition first.

MarquiaF_VZW, I have gone through the steps suggested by B33 and it hasn't worked. I was actually on the phone with one of your tech specialists yesterday when the same issue happened and she had to hang up and call me back. From speaking with her and a rep from Motorola, this seems to a be known issue amongst the Motorola team and they don't seem to care. I guess Razr Maxx HD has gone through its tech lifecycle and for those that still use the phone, we are SOL because the only thing they'll say is we can send it to them for a 5 day repair period while staying without communication for both work and personal purposes. And Verizon wireless has made it even harder you can only switch phones like-for-like so I end up getting a faulty phone over and over again. This current Razr Maxx HD that I have is the 2nd since November 2013. Or I might as well get into the EDGE program, giving more money to Verizon and actually not getting answers to existing issues.

So, how do you suggest to end misery, MarquiaF_VZW?

Is this confirmed? It sure seems like a major shortcoming of this phone to have lost headset microphone.

This seems to be an issue with the recent update because I have a DROID RAZR MAXX and I have a host of headsets with microphones that I have used and set aside for sound quality or comfort reasons and NONE of them work now. So I bought new headsets that I bought before and they didn't work.  I thought the phone was bad and had it replaced. The new one does not work with headset mic on any of my headsets. Sound quality from the headset is fine so it is not the connector. I have factory reset the phone (when getting this new one that was step one anyway) but no-go on using the headset microphone. My wife has a Droid Razr M 4G LTE XT907 and now hers has stopped working too after hearing me gripe. I only use the headset microphone for decades as I hate holding the phone to my head and bluetooth headsets always seem to need to be charged and lose their mating mid-call and otherwise are just a bother so use of headset microphone is a crucial basic feature to lose like this.
