i know this is much later, but...
I would really like to get this to work for me.
I have a Motorola Razr. This app came with the phone. The only place I can find this app is on settings and that won't let me open it. So I cannot get anywhere that offers me "options". Any clues beyond what you have given here a year ago?
Have you tried logging on to your MyVerizon account at verizonwireless.com, and then on the Main Menu drop down for the MyVerizon tab, click on Back up My Contacts.
What happens then? I am taken to a list of my contacts, with a red check mark next to those that are Verizon numbers. I can "sync" (though I have it backed up regularly, so I typically don't use that button) and I can view and edit my contact list from the computer. I set the scheduling from here as well.
On the phone, I go to my contact list (People, on my Motorola Droid), then settings button on the phone once the contact list is open, and Backup Assistant is one of the options. I don't have a Backup Assistant icon in my app drawer, if that is what you are looking for.
