i am on a family plan and want to know how i can put my phone on its own plan and not be part of the family plan anymore

You'll need to do an Assumption of Liability; several threads on this forum about it if you want to do a search.

Contact Verizon and ask to do just that. The easiest way would be to go into a Verizon store. You will most likely need to have the account owner with you to release your number to a new account.

Depending on your credit history, you may have to leave a security deposit for your line.
