Hi cjhamr02. Have you solved the mystery of your S3 charging issue yet? There was a good suggestion from demmo86rt to try a different charger or cord, especially if the store was able to get the phone to charge with their charger. If a charger is pulled out of the phone quickly or at an angle, it can sometimes cause the connection in the phone to have trouble connecting the the cable when it's plugged into the port. If the store was able to confirm there was no trouble with the phone or the battery, then I would definitely take a look at the charger you're using.

Since the JB update mine charges only a few % overnight if left on (even with wifi and mobile data and etc. off) and drops faster during the day. If off, it also chrages slowly for hours, then jumps to 100% and stops charging; but when I turn it on it says only half charged or whatever, only a few % above where it was the night before when I turned it off. VERY strange glitch they need to remedy ASAP. Similar behavior with car charger although not tested overnight.
Also the battery usage screen does not show it being on a/c, just on battery even when the battery shows as clowly charging! Look at the screen below: "1d"+ on battery? Even when % was going up?? I think not!!!
PLEASE tell me they are working hard on this like they are with the large-memory-card problem!!!
I Had a 9 WEEK old Samsung S3 till yesterday. It went "dead", would not hold a charge..would go through the noise and graphics like it was "turning on" then go dead. I had to agree to take a REFURBISHED phone, you will never get a new phone swapped out for a new phone even under warrenty, even with the insurance which I paid lmost $160.00 for! Wrong. We were in the store 3 times --on the phone with customer service forever. Now since the NEW phone was dead..the info cannot be transferred to the REFURBISHED phone..lost pictures and video and apps etc. Did retrieve contacts, but not the picture of each contact I had taken to match with name/number. Have to start over--super bummer. I discontinued a land line after 18 yrs. for THIS?

I know how important it is to have a reliable device bobkatrb! The Galaxy S III should be a very reliable device! I'm sorry to hear of any previous data or media you have lost on the defective device. Are you currently having difficulties with the replacement unit?

I just had this same problem! Not to mention my phone freezing in the middle of using an app (not just a single one, it's happened to at least 4 different apps).
Either way, I plugged my phone in when it hit 5% and it wouldn't charge! So, I grabbed another charger (we have half a dozen of them in our house) and tried again. I did this with 2 more chargers, all with the same result: nothing. By this time, my phone had died and I started looking up solutions online (thank you for the take-out-battery solution!) and found this post. After taking out the battery and putting it back in, I was able to charge it. Still, I'm a little afraid my phone might suddenly black out sometime in the night while I'm asleep and then the alarms won't go off. I'm military, I can't have an unreliable alarm!
Well, this is only the first time it's happened to my phone and might just be a fluke. But the scary thing is that I bought this phone brand new a week ago and I have yet to drop it or get it wet in any way. I shouldn't be having a problem already.
i had the same issue i got mine in February and a week later the phone wouldn't hold a charge.
I called up VZW and they told me they would send me a different phone and that should fix the problem.
about a month went by and apps started to randomly close or the phone would shut off by itself.
I now and nit at all happy I call again and they send me phone and battery this time. Well I figure
this will solve the problem naturally this don't and they tell me its a cord issue then. My gf got a gs3
from boost and I use hers no problem till 11-22 when the phone started to close apps again.
I did the battery trick and put it back in and then it wouldn't hold a charge after that day. Even my
VZW car charger wouldn't charge it. So I took it into my Jacksonville corporate store and told an
associate there it wasn't working. He told me if I've had this many issues It couldn't something
I did possibly. I told him now and that I wanted a replacement. The same associate told me and I
quote, "Do you complain to the cable company if your tv don't work?" I told him yes if the cable
company sticks me with a 2 year contract for getting said tv... on 11-27 during a live chat on VZW
I was told the charging issues aren't wide spread. My phone of 9 months has been replaced 3 times
now all for the same issues of not taking or holding a charge. Hardly seems fair when you pay $105
a month with a 19% discount and you have unlimited voice texts and 2gb of data a month...
Mine samsung 3 has to be only 6 months old about and over last couple weeks it stopped charging. It will take hours or days to get a full charge and then in 5 minutes will be down to 20% then 10 minutes later only 3%. The plugin cord and usb work fine with other samsung phones. I ordered a new battery and that won't charge either. I've removed majority of apps to decrease usage. Nothing helps. Store doesn't know what to do. I am getting really frustrated and upset. I purchased the extended warranty...is this scenario eligible for a new phone? I don't know what else to try. Help, please.
my phone is 1.5 years old and i very recently started having battery, performance, and charging issues. I too thought it was full bc it is getting older and deleted my texts, pics, some apps. I checked power management, made sure my rom was current. I suppose this is some type of "update" issue as it is a striking difference from previous performance and only recently started. we have had trouble with OS updates before. hopefully it will be fixed soon. My phone is almost unusable.
Thanks Breezex! I took it by Verizon and they "reset" it without deleting everything. That corrected the problem for a few hours. That made me think it was a software problem that did not restart until the particular app was used. I was suspicious of the text messeging via google talk. Its a new feature added to google talk where you can text using it. I activated it but didnt like it. Also, I was suspicious of my custom keyboard "AI type keyboard" even though I had used it for a long time, typing was one of the slowest things. Getting rid of those seemed to help. It is now much better than it was. I probably could use a new battery but will hopefully be upgrading soon :-) I have also been updating my apps frequently in the event there was a glitch in one of them.
Maybe others have used one of those two apps and had similar problems?
You deserve a good working phone bartelma. I understand you have already replaced the battery. Have you tried using a different charger? Have you also tried running your phone on safe mode? To do this click http://vz.to/1bzjYDR Also, when purchasing an extended warranty and it is determined that your phone needs to be replaced, your phone is replaced with the same make & model phone.
