This week my Nexus started  flashing a red box on certain applications such as deleting a text message...went to the Verizon store...after a few wrong guesses...they suggested a google blog on ice cream sandwich (which I never found)...so here I am.  trying to find out if the red boxing is telling me something important I either need to know or worry about...thnx!

That red box is not a defect, or a bug, and nothing to worry about. It is, in fact, a development tool called'Strict mode'. It flashes a red box around the edges of the screen to let you know an app is doing a long process on the main thread, in other words, when an app is taking a long time to do something in the foreground (Which explains why it happens while sending texts). This can be turned off/fixed by going into Settings>Developer Options, and finding the "Strict Mode enabled" checkbox. If it is not checked, check it, reboot, then uncheck it. Your problem should go away.

Hope this info helps!

First off, where does the red box appear?

The redbox is a red line around the perimeter of the display... and appears for a split second...

Thank you very much...you are entirely correct... I figured it had something to do with developer options...altho I have never deliberately changed the settings... the red box/lines are now gone... this is what happens when you pair a smart phone with a dumb user...appreciate your time and expertise in answering my query...
