I have the new Samsung Galaxy S III and am not able to get the text messaging feature in my Ford Sync to work. I previously had a Droid2 and had no problems. I contacted Ford and they said that I needed to have the Message Access Protocol (MAP) active on my phone. I can't find that anywhere! When I turn message notification on in the car, I get a message that says "unsupported" - anyone else having this issue??
I received the following reply from Verizon Technical Support:
After reviewing our information on the Samsung Galaxy III, there are known issues with the Bluetooth connection. The Message Access Protocol is automatically active for all of the phones. Samsung is working on a software update to fix the issue and should be releasing it soon.
I am able to receive text messages through SYNC.......However, all of the messages display from "my name." So when I reply to the message, I send a message to myself. I am not able to send a message to anyone else though SYNC.
Does anyone else have this issue?
2011 Escape/Sync Version Gen1 - V3.2.5/Verizon Galaxy S3
SYNC - Make sure MAP and message notification are both on.
If that does not work, try disconnecting and resetting the phone and/or SYNC. That did fix the problem for the Droid Razr Maxx, but sadly not for my S3.
Download "Bluetooth Auto Connect", free in the Play Store. Then under "Profiles", select "Media Audio"," Call Audio", "Phone Book", and Networking". After you do this, Messaging will work properly with Sync, as well as Bluetooth streaming. This is for the Verizon Galaxy S4, not sure if this fixes the problem with the Galaxy S3 though.
