Has anyone heard ANY news about Casio releasing a 4G version of the Commando? I spoke to Casio's customer service reps and they tell me that a 4G version is due to come out soon. Unfortunately they cannot give out a date for release at this time because (they tell me) the release date is at Verizon's discretion.

A few weeks ago Casio filed plans with the FCC for a new phone (Casio Model # C811) which many assume will be the replacement for the existing Casio Commando (Casio Model # C771). The filings confirm that the Casio C811 runs on LTE frequencies used by Verizon Wireless (Verizon band 13), in addition to Verizon's CDMA frequencies. Furthermore the C811 also runs on international GSM spectrum bands. Other features revealed include a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, and NFC. The drawing of the C811 is of a phone with a similar, but not exactly the same, physical layout to the Japanese-bound Casio G’zOne Type-L.
Well, looking at the FCC drawings and the Casio GzOne website, it looks to me that it isn't the Type-L, but the IS11CA instead. What do you think?
According to this site: http://www.slashgear.com/casio-gz0ne-commando-reboots-with-4g-lte-02276196/ it is out.
Our question now seems to be this: Casio Commando 4G or iPhone5 with a weather proof Otter Box.
Anyone have any insights on making that choice? Does anyone have any idea how this Casio Commando 4G performs in order to make that comparison (or a decision overall)?
Oh, and of course, when might Verizon be making it available??
It is "out" at the FCC website. But not out in the market yet. I had to go to a Verizon Store the other day and the rep didn't have any info about it. They are pushing S4 pre-orders.
Also, the only "waterproof" case for the iPhone is Lifeproof, which the rep also recommended for the iP5; I'm an Android guy; nothing against Apple per se, I just prefer the Android ecosystem.
On another site the are saying the leaked release date is 6/6/13, I hope this is true as my company has been waiting for months for this phone to release. If South Korea can have it already why not us??? Come on verizon, promote your upcoming phones and stop being so secretive please!!! Maybe release this device before it is 2 years out of date?!?!?!?
Well my contract is up at the end of May, and my Commando has been on its last legs for three months now. I'm not sure if I'll wait for it to come out. Verizon has great coverage, but customer service is lacking (it is better than what it was though,) and I don't like the idea of losing my unlimited data.
Wow. Can't blame you there, aviationeast. Do check in and let us know what
(and perhaps who) you decide to go with instead. That is the other
consideration we are discussing here, as we watch the Commando go through
its death spiral .
As for CS, it IS kind of amazing that Verizon provides this forum for the
community and doesn't check in to respond to pleas from its existing
customers for assistance!
Cheers and good luck with your decisionmaking.
I see no evidence there IS a first line of VZW customer service. Every answer from the online channels is canned tripe about how they are always working to make our service better, and we can sign up for alerts about new products. That's not helpful.
If there was no info about a new Commando, my wife would have left VZW for someone else. She's being punished as an early adopter of the C711, since it's now well over 2 years old. It's out of date, and she's free of contract.
But it's much worse: We don't just have rumors, we have completed FCC filings. We have photos with Verizon logos, and the Verizon manual for the the phone, which I even downloaded to my computer. Not releasing it is bad, not having a release date is lame, not admitting it will ever be released or exists is insulting. Why does so much of Verizon act like they hate us as customers SOOOO much?
I agree totally. I have been following this new version since last year and find it hard to believe it's still not available. I look for it every day but get the same results. Someone knows what is going on but they won't say anything. I believe its just sitting in boxes waiting for the c711 to sell out. I have heard about a release date of 6/6/13 but have heard of release dates that have come and gone. Verizon should just *** ** and release it. I have never seen any other company do such a bad job of customer service.

Have had a Gzone One Ravine for years waiting for a Military Spec smart phone upgrade. All I can say is my contract has been up for a long time and Sprint has a new hot Military Spec 4G Smartphone. Having to pull back hard on the reins to stay with Verizon considering their lack of providing a 4G Mil Spec Smartphone for so so so long.
I am in total agreement with Cowpappy and rebelioz. I too am contract free and been patiently waiting. I too am struggling with an out of date 2+ year old Commando 711 that has been creeping along on its last legs for months. It is getting very difficult to not give in to temptation and switch carriers, especially with the new month to month options that now exist and comparable product offers.
And, I also agree that customer service, though vastly improved, leaves very much to be desired. Often they are unhelpful and at times just downright rude. At this point I'm only here not out of loyalty to Verizon, but out of loyalty to Casio. Come June 6 I am going to have some decisions to make.
Once again, I'm here to air out my dissatisfaction with verizon's pathetic customer relations VZW seems to have a knack for losing potential buyers due to poor communication. How ironic for a leading company in the field of communication. I seem to remember not too long ago, how I was totally stoked to get a rugged qwerty phone after having been a long time fan of the G'z One line since owning the type V, boulder, and rock. It took what seemed forever to finally get one and after a couple - three months I was bored of it. Not so much with the Commando but still, I'm over the "wow" period. I believe it will be the same for the c881 or c811. Therefore, I used my upgrade on another $50 commando since my original was fading fast (turned out to be battery issues). I bought a new $8 battery at amazon and now am the proud owner of two rockin' phones, one for entertainment and one for business. It's unfortunate for us to have to wait INDEFINITELY, good public relations would be to give any type of reason for delay. Excellent PR would be to say the delay is to iron out the bugs, be it true or not.The people who have the most legitimate gripe would be casio stock owners and shareholders. While their phone remains off the market, apple and otterbox; samsung; motorola; nexus; etc reap the benefit by moving product. Maybe at&t and sprint benefit too
You: i was wondering if there is any news about the next gen casio commando. mine is acting up and i want to know if i should hold off and wait for the next gen , or just go ahead and upgrade to a different phone?
Megan: I'd be happy to assist you.
Megan: We currently do not have any information about a new device releasing with Verizon at this time.
You: thank you
I've had my G'zOne TYPE-S since 2007 and am now ready for the new Type L smarty phone. I thought Verizon was putting this out on the 6th? I guess not (maybe they're too busy with the NSA). I'm going to check out SPRINT's KYOCERA TORQUE since Verizon really has let down 121 million customers . . .
This might be an option soon. http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-announces-water-resistant-galaxy-s4-active
I believe so, military spec also incorporates tolerance to shock, temperature, and other variables. Here is some info I cut from a white paper that compared the two ratings:
Hmmmm . . .
Casio Commando Type L /// Samsung S4 Active
Processor : 2 core Snapdragon @ 1.5 Ghz /// 4 core Snapdragon @ 1.9GHz
OS : Android 4.0 /// Android 4.2.2
Battery : 1800mAh /// 2600mAh
Internal storage : 8GB /// 16GB
Waterproof rating : IPX5/IPX8 /// IP67
Camera : 8MP, 1080p /// 8MP, 1080p
Type L ALREADY OBSOLETE even before being released? (I know things can change at release, but Verizon hasn't even spouted one iota of this phone)
I saw Samsung Galaxy is coming out with their "Adventure" version, I hope Verizon picks it up, if Verizon does not launch an upgrade to the commando soon I will be getting the Samsung Adventure, or switching providers. Verizon is silly to think people will buy the old Commando 3g. They will be holding out and losing customers to ditch a bunch of old phones that probably cost them nothing each.
Here is a leaked shot of the phone, and the article has a release date of July 3
