I currently have a droid charge ("upgraded" from a Blackberry tour) and I'm looking into a new phone. I know every forum has their group of users that hate their phone, have serious complaints with them, known issues with the phone, etc but I was hoping to get some feedback on how your experiences with the RAZR or the MAXX have been, advantages/disadvantages, would you recommend it, alternate phone suggestions, etc.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I feel the exact same way Jim does the phone has far exceeded my expectations an what you can do with it there isn't to many phones in it's class it does not have I.C.S yet but it's coming. An there isn't in my mind any phone that can stream over 20 hours of Music on a single battery Charge an not have to be hooked up to the charger. Pictures Take really good an the flash kicks in really good in Night pictures An my HD Station that i have an use with it is a Marvel in itself I got pictures on it check out my Profile to see them an have a look at my other Post to read on the great Capabilities of this Device..b33
I have had two HTC phones before RAZR MAXX. I like the HTC interface but with that interface you lose battery life. <Content deleted per the Terms of Service.> I got the RAZR MAXX because my last phone was a Thunderbolt and I couldn't last half a heavy use day its battery life is horrible. I was a bit worried about the MAXX because it was Motorola and they did some update behind the scenes with the first droid and broke corporate email and messed with other setting. But the MAXX pretty close to stock android, and with Google buying Motorola Mobile. There phone should get better and be more toward stock android. I have coworkers with the Samsung phones and I don't like a majority of their interface. LG don't buy. Pantech don't buy. I would recommend the RAZR MAXX over the plain RAZR. It isn't that much thicker and it last forever with the right apps. The key is the apps for android phones and their battery life. The RAZR screen is very good quality And the non-removal battery really can be removed without too much work(This will void warranty and I bring it just so you know it can be done). Issues I have had with the phone that I hope get fixed with next os update. 4G drop off at 2 bars of signal. Remedied somewhat with a app for connection problems. Next is the phone have a little antenna problem when your hand is over the camera side(4G antenna side). Overall I love the phone but will get a iphone 4g when it comes out. Because apple, it just works. Android works about 95% of the time. I hate a lot of apple stuff. But I can't argue that they just work 99% of the time.

I love my Razr, BUT this is my first Android phone, so dont have much to compare it too. Ditched AT&T and Blackberry for Verizon and Android and dont regret it for one second. Our roommates got the Razr the day it came out as their first ever smartphones, and they had no problems using it so we made the leap. LOVE this phone, other than the sucky battery life, kinda wish we would have went with the Razr Max,but other than that its a great phone and I am now an Android customer for life.
Svz1979 take your Mouse an put it on my Screen Name while on it. Slide you Mouse Down to Check Follow an then i can Send a Direct Message to Ya I will Tell something neat on the Razr you can Do with it..
Also Look up at the Arrow with the Check in it to see my Notification: b33
I purchased an android razr several months ago. it is a very nice phone. HOWEVER. 33 days after purchase the unit fell out of my shirt pocket (very easy to do with the slippery design) and bounced off of my foot from a 2 foot height, and hit the floor. the GORILLA glass shattered. Motorola, though very hard to understand as the oversease person was reading from a piece of paper, demanded $150.00 to repair it.
I think that, no matter how nice the product, you have to take the company's lack of culpability into account and opt for another manufacturer. There are plenty of 4G and 3G phones on the market and they all do basically the same thing. I'd go for Samsung next time.
Agreed, the screen on the RAZR MAXX is not ready for normal people to use. Great phone, great capabilities, but the Gorilla glass fractures if ANYTHING happens to it. People have had it bread in their pockets, setting it on a table, sliding off a coffee table onto the carpet etc.
Just do a google search for broken RAZR screen, the people can't all be lying about it. They tell us that it is ready to be used with kevlar, gorilla glass metal frame, etc. But a month or two after you get it a 3 year old will pick it up to see a picture and twist it a little and you'll have to get a new phone.
Avoid the RAZR MAXX like the plague until Motorola steps up and fixes it.
Oh, people say that this isn't a known problem. Of course it isn't; the support organizations all attribute it to physical damage. If they put a button on the phone that fell off when you used it, they would call that physical damage also. The phone should be able to handle everyday use, not break when you set it down.
O really: I've had my Maxx for over 2 months Now an non of this has Happen to it.. I think allot has to do with how it's used & treated.I've also had my Droid X for 2 Years an it looks like i pulled it out of the box yesterday The way i see you Take of your Equiptment it will Re-Ward ya in the Long Run..
So far Shelly it's doing fine but i clean my in & out boxes once a Week. Wanted to ask how many Text are you Sending an Receiving before it Stops or Starts to Lag. Why i ask this there is Setting in the General Setting of your Text Messages. An it says Message Limit You can Adjust this Shelly.
Here's how to Get to it. Tap your Messages Widget > You will See your Messages > From there Tap You Settings the three little Horizontal bars bottom of you screen. > it will then pop up a Black screen With General Settings Message Limit is Second from the Top. Tap into it an you should be able to Set a Higher Limit for your Messages. Give this a Try. Let me know the Results of this but it should help..b33
Shelly what i'm trying to say is it should help why i say this is. it's what i do on my Devices . I know you went threw 4 F.R.'s an that's allot if things are not getting better for it. i would talk to C.S. an see what you Options Are. I hate it when ones have to go threw this on there Device..but i can only give what i have an that's just a Suggestion. b33
b33, you got yours about the same time I got mine, the day it came out. I also had exactly zero problems except the low volume on alarms, but good fortune didn't last. I went to take a picture, the screen broke. It cracked vertically from top to bottom down the center of the screen. Notice, I didn't say anything about dropping it. Verizon support suggested I take it to a store and have them look at it to see if they could tell what happened. The salesman there couldn't see why it happened, and while we were playing with it, it broke again. This time with a horizontal crack from the left side to the middle. This is while the salesman watched it happen.
Of course Motorola claims it was physical abuse; Verizon's policy is that any physical damage and the warranty is void; and the insurance company doesn't care, they just replace phones. So, there is no path for satisfaction on this.
So, YES REALLY. Your trite little caustic response was of no value at all. When yours breaks, you'll understand better, and who said anything about the Droid X?
Let me get this Straight Now. The Screen cracked when you was Taking pictures at what or how many pictures Did you Take before it Cracked. I took 15 to 20 at my Cousins Wedding using the Front & back camera an nothing an they came out Fine an the Screen Too. By the Way How were Holding the Phone when this took place. You no i'm not Doubting what your Telling me freaky things can things can happen but i just don't see it unless you were putting some kind of stress on it some wear..
O by the way i read you post again there would be no three year old's messing with my phone in the first place.. as a matter of fact No one does!
If any one that has had there phone Come up with a Cracked Screen i Encourage you to Contact the Manufacture Witch it Owens Corning..
To get a hold of them here is one Way of Doing So I will Try a find Contact No. as Well
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/motorola << These are Motorola Products Currently Using Gorilla Glass.
It doesn't really matter how many pictures I was taking and what the event was I was taking pictures at; the phone shouldn't break using it in a normal fashion. But, just to go along with it, I took one picture of the outside of my house, around noon or so. I didn't take another at that time because the screen cracked and I attended to that. I had previously taken a large number of picture over a few weeks of owning the phone without problems.
Although you may not have a small child pick up your phone, there are others out there that will. You are not the only person that uses this phone and can't assume to be the standard that others live by.
However, your idea of contacting Corning is a really good one. Did that, but haven't heard back yet. I'll see if anything comes of it. I suspect not. It was interesting visiting their site and seeing all the advertising about how tough and durable Gorilla glass is. Just adds ammunition to my complaint. Something is radically wrong either with the product or its specific implementation on this device. If it really works as they claim, the phone shouldn't break until someone runs over it with a garbage truck.
draythomp there Could be a couple things that could cause this i Guess is that the center portion of the Glass is Weaker than that at it's Edges or when they Designed it they didn't Put enough of the Stuff that Makes it rigged enough to withstand Minor tweaks or Anything for that Matter..
Got a note back from Corning, as expected, they don't want to do anything about it and suggested I contact Motorola and Verizon. Typical.
I think you're right B33, it's a specific problem with the RAZR MAXX and maybe not all of them. However, it does cloud the reputation of both the phone and Gorilla glass. Meanwhile, I'll go find yet another review site and post there to get the word around. Eventually, there will be enough people that notice to affect one of these companies.
Update: I just got another response from Corning. They want me to give the phone to them for examination. Darn it, I've already sent the phone back to the insurance company and received my replacement so I can't. But, you other folks out there, there is a path to, at least, get the phone examined by someone that knows what they are doing. Contact Corning and see what they say.
To be fair, from what it sounds like to me, it's possible that their design puts too much stress on the glass. Maybe when it was manufacturer, the casing was overtightened or something to that effect and the screen was being stressed or torqued as a result of the manufacturing. If the integrity of the glass was being compromised over time, it might not have taken too much to push it over the edge. Just a guess but I tend to side with Corning that the issue likely has more to do with how it was handled (not necessarily you) than it has to do with the quality of their products (though, to be fair, I don't know much about their quality control process).
I saw a video that shows the phone shouldn't actually be able to break dropping it even from waist height directly onto the screen but the breaking height is actually about ear height, directly on the screen (can't find the video now. Figures). The idea that it's just suddenly breaking on it's own sounds more like the screen has been under continual stress for one reason or another.
dont get the droid rarz....not sure why anyone isnt mentioning the known problems it has....if you use hotmail it wont work unless you download an extra hotmail app that takes up alot of the space on the phone. the stock email on the phone doesnt work with hotmail. it will send blank emails even though when you look at your sent box the email has text in it...people receive it blank...and the biggest problem of all is that you wont receive all your text messages and others wont receive all the ones you send them. it is completely random when someone wont get a text and it is not related to others cell phone carriers. if you look at the report of sent and received text it will look like they are all going through but they are not. some people may have not noticed that others arent receiving texts until you ask someone if they got it. it is the most annoying problem and verizon and motorola have no solutions
Yes it is the same for the razr maxx. The thread is on Verizon community under Droid razr...titled not receiving text messages....there are many who have yet to realize they are not receiving all their texts and the razr is not sending them all because if you look under text message usage on line detailed report it shows them all being sent a received.
Yeah, as soon as I posted that, I found it right away. Not cool . . . but if I've learned anything from that thread it's to file a BBB complaint if they fail to provide services I pay for. I'm at the edge of doing that for another issue but that's something COMPLETELY different.
Thanks for the heads up!
Nope, I can't even get 4G in my area (despite the reps telling me we'd have it here by the end of last summer (this was in July of last year)). I was basically upsold a phone that probably won't even provide the 4G service to me that I paid for before my contract is up. Hence my frustration with spending $300 on a phone that doesn't work like it should so I could take advantage of a service they can't provide me. It's their response to the whole thing that ****** me off the most but that's a whole other rant . . .
But I shouldn't be throttled since I can't even seem to use that much data on the 3g cuz it's so slow. Of course, I'm having to use it more and more lately because my WIFI doesn't hardly work anymore on the stupid phone. I'm literally sitting in front of my wireless router and it still has a weak connection and fights back and forth between wifi and 3g, which decimates my battery life AND it's slow. It's ridiculous. I hate this phone. It's better than the blackberry tour I had before it but relative to 3G phones that were released at the same time, this phone *****. to pay that much money for an inferior phone to take advantage of a technology not offered is maddening. to be poorly supported on top of it is likely to result in me leaving Verizon and taking as many people as I can with me.
If i may ask were is your approximate Location i can look on a an tell ya if your close are in the 4G area. Like for me i'm 15 to 20 miles to the nearest 4G tower an i will tell ya if i could get Closer i would..b33
An i look at the LTE Update Center about every day to see some else but our Area getting the 4G an think well some day!
I'm in the Ventura, Oxnard area. So basically, right between LA and Santa Barbara, which both have 4G. I was told a month or two ago that NOW the only estimation of when they will have 4G is by the end of 2013, which is 6 months AFTER my current service expires and a FAR cry from the end of summer 2011 they quoted me when I signed up.
I hate Verizon.
Right Now the Closest 4G Area from were your At is Burbank an it Stretches over to Semi Valley Basically your in the Same fix i'm in. You got it Close to you but you ain't got it. For me it's East & West of me over in Sedgwick in Wichita they have it an out to the West Dodge, Garden City, Hays an Great Bend. Cities that are slightly smaller than ours have it While we Wait..b33
Got something to ask why is when you want to look at Map's on Google Chrome it seems to Take for Ever to Load like a Dog chasing it's Tail But when you go to Say like Fire Fox Boom it's Loaded with in Seconds.. Whats the Scoop any body got an answer to that.. i would really like to Know.. thanks B33
