I've been a long-time customer of Verizon and have put up with quite a lot of nickel and diming. However, making a sim card unable to be activated once it has already been activated and deactived is just ridiculous. My device got wet and I let it dry out for a couple of days. During this time period, I switched back to my old smartphone. Once my newer device was dry, I wished to switch back to it. Upon activating the device, or trying to reactivate it, it says that my sim card is unable to be activated at this time. After a discussion with Verizon customer support, I came to learn that you cannot reactivate these sim cards and a new one must be purchased. This is outrageous. A new sim card from Verizon is $25. I cannot believe that people are letting this happen. What a poor display of customer service and a real lack of integrity.

If you called Verizon C.S. an talked to C.S.R. an explained your having an issue with the Sim they should send one free of Charge same thing with going to a Corporate store but getting your phone wet is another story especially if it got to the Internals of that phone Wet not alone the battery. I'm surprised of it even coming on.. if it was me i would cut the loss an get another phone as you may in-cure issues with it but then again it not my Phone. Good luck B33

milli,
I apologize for the inconvenience of replacing the SIM card in your device. Verizon Wireless does provide these at no cost. Third party retailers purchase their own inventory and also are free to set their own prices for the merchandise. The inability to activate a SIM card is the nature of SIM cards in general. This is a big reason why Verizon Wireless has chosen to replace these at no cost when necessary. If you are still in need of a SIM card, I encourage you to visit a corporate store or direct message me and I can help.
Thank you!

I recently bought a Droid Charge from a family member. Do I have to pay for a new SIM card or can I get one from a corporate store as well?
