"Verizon" gone from the home screen

I'm  a former Alltel customer with an iPhone 4s. Since the last PRL update the VERIZON banner has disappeared from the home screen.  Any idea why? Phone and networking apparently are working normally.

Is ur correct plan a Verizon plan or ur old alltell plan. I noticed being a Verizon never alltell I called the 1800 number that there is a section for former alltell people and then reg Verizon people. Not all alltell people transferred to the new Verizon plans I think. Just brainstorming why urs would do that. Mine says Verizon although I had always been Verizon. I don't know if it changes if u are roaming or not depending on where u are. Hope that helps

I have an old Alltel plan.  Thought that the discrimination would have stopped by now. I've had both the 4 and the 4s and the same thing has happened to the VERIZON banner after activation and after software upgrades on both phones.

Most of the customers that I have comes across with Alltel plans also have an Alltel PRL loaded on their phone.  When you look at the carrier information for the phone it will say Unknown.  The Alltel PRL looks for Alltel towers first before connecting to a Verizon tower.  If you want to keep your Alltel plan, the phones you use will continue to say Unknown network until you switch to a Verizon plan or get a Verizon PRL loaded onto the phone.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Thank you for the response,

Except initially after receiving the IPhone the PRL was302XX. I believe that the last (just before the PRL update to 10078) was 30276 and always had the ALLTEL banner showing.

Why would Verizon make this change without notifying the former Alltel customers? How can I again get a Verizon PRL loaded?

Regarding my last post, of course meant to say the VERIZON banner, not the Alltel banner, SORRY!

Someone more familiar with the Alltel plans would be better equipped to answer that then I am.

After much research and discussion it appears that the only way to solve this is with a Verizon PRL. It happened to me and a few others like 2 days after iOS 5.1 update. They will tell you that with an Alltel plan they cannot push a Verizon PRL, the system wont allow it. I had a tech say he did, insisted I got a 52xxx then said oh wait a moment, sorry the system kicked it out and sent the 40xxx again. So he ended up sending a 46xxx which is a hybrid that supposedly treats Alltel and vzw equally. However I still have no Verizon banner and the about: network remains to say "Not Available" but my signal is back up to where it was . ( I had lost several bars when this happened) Always had 5 bars then when this issue occur'ed down to 2 or 3. Needless to say I was not happy. Of course to me the unlimited data and WAY better voice plan is more important than "advertising" Verizon at the top of my iPhone. Now it looks like the iPhones in the commercials that have no carrier displayed Smiley Happy.

Thank you very much for the information. VERIZON banner has been present since shortly after I received the iPhone 4S back in October when I did the *228 PRL update and it appeared and has been on the screen until I did the PRL update after OS5.1 was installed and lost it.  The PRL for the last couple months was 30276 (I assumed this was for the former Alltel people with iPhones. When the VERIZON was lost the new PRL became 30079, same on my wife's Motorola V3M.

Guess I'll try tech support to see what they tell me.

I had the same problem the last five days 2 days after upgrading to iOS 5.1. I too am a former alltel customer with an old alltel plan. My signal strength has dropped off and it seems the phone is falling off the 3G network and seems to be searching for signal. I called and they ended up saying it was a hardware issue and are sending a new phone in its place. I am afraid this won't work either, BTW my PRL is 40087.
