ENV3 - Does it require a data plan?

I just need a phone to make calls and occasional text messages, decent reception is a must and a decent camera is a plus for sure. But all this talk about data plans is confusing. Does the LG Env3 require a data plan? Does anyone have a list of phones that do not require a data plan? Thanks!

Although you will find various answers on this board and others, AT THIS TIME, you can get the Env3 activated without a data plan.  At times in the past it has been required on this phone, and that's why it gets confusing - depending on the timing of the posts, it WAS required.  Even reps are confused... but at this point in time, you do not need a data plan to activate the ENv3.

Nope just activated a used one for my husband last month.  I did have to go to a verizon store though as I got an error when trying to activate, think it wanted a data plan but they knew what to do to get around that.  Mary

Hello mightykage,

As the community members stated, the Env3 does not required a data package. Although we recommend it so you can use all of the benefits of the device, it is not mandatory. There is a long list of devices that we carry that does not require a data package, new devices and retired devices. May I ask is there a particular device that you are interested in other than the Env3? From our current lineup, you can shop our basic phone selection using the link below.

Does the Palm Treo Pro require a data plan?  Is there a list I can reference to somewhere to see which phones do not require a data plan?

Thanks for posting. The Palm Treo Pro does require a data plan in order for it to be activated. Feel free to review our current data plans. If you need to activate a particular device we can always confirm if it does require data or not. Keep in mind it’s optional to add a data plan to basic phones and certain retired Smartphones do not require a data plan.

Where did you get this information from?  I tried to activate a Motorola Q today that came out in 2006 and was told ANY smartphone regardless of age requires a data plan.  Spoke to 3 different people telling me the same thing.  I think it's pretty sorry that a phone with 6 year old technology had to have a $30/month data plan.  How on earth are you even going to come close to using 2GB something that ancient.  Verizon is all about money and how they can squeeze every cent out of their customers.  "Required" data plan.........makes me sick.

Yes you can use 2GB worth a data even on a BB.  It's a matter of what you do with it dictates how much data you use.
