I just received help from the tech help at Verizon. Here was the solution:
Take the battery out for a minute or two and put back in and turn on normally.
It worked. I have taked the battery out with other phones I've had, but honestly had not done it with this phone. So it needed to reboot apparently. It may have not been done with an update that I thought was done right before I turned it off last night.
One more suggestion from the help tech was to update every couple of months by using *228 and option 2
