Tethering to Netbook

I just bought a netbook and am trying to find out the best and cheapest way to use my netbook while traveling.  We only travel 3-4 times a year.

I am thinking about getting a new cell and tethering to my phone.  I would like to know if I can tether to the new Motorala Rival.  I read on these forums I think that any VCast phone can be tethered.

I would have to change my calling plant and pay more, and I also don't know which plan I would have to get.  I don't want to go to a verizon store because you getter phone pricing on the internet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!

If you are on a Nationwide Premium or Connect plan, then the tethering add-on will cost you $30/month.  If you are on a Nationwide Basic or Select then it'll cost you $49.99/month

This site lists the VZAccess manager software for specific phones:

that the Rival has a listing, means it should be able to tether.

when choosing your netbook, keep in mind that there is no linux version of VZAM yet.
