Can't install update on Droid X2

I received a message this morning that the Gingerbread update was available on my Droid X2. I was plugged into the charger, the package downloaded, but it failed about 1/4 of the way through the install. I have done a factory reset and still not able to install the update. I haven't been able to find anything online for a manual install package.

Is anyone else having trouble updating their X2??? I'm really frustrated!!!

To install Gingerbread, or any other OS, your battery has to be at 100%. When you were downloading GB while charging, it probably saw that your battery was not 100% charged and stopped. Charge your battery completely. Once that's done, tap on the menu key>Settings>About Phone>System updates. See if that works.

It was fully charged. It had charged overnight and it tried to download at 6 AM. It gave me the prompt this morning and did the same thing. I don't know what the issue could be.

There are several messages on this board about being unable to download Gingerbread. Try doing a search, and maybe one of them will point you in the right direction.

Reading some of these posts, it seems that the Droid X2 is having all sorts of problems with the upgrade. As it stands right now, I would say that you are probably better off with Froyo. If I had the X2 and read some of these posts, I would definitely keep Froyo. Upgrades are not always the greatest, look at Microsoft Windows, for example, some of their upgrades were horrible, like Vista.

Good Morning!

The latest upgrade to the Droid X2 is still being pushed out. After the first few days a software update typically is not available for 'pull' but only a system generated push over-the-air.  Here are helpful hints and steps for the software upgrade.

Thank you!

The problem he is having is the install, not the download.

@ejuliano - the problem might be that you didn't get a good download, it might be incomplete, corrupt etc. I would think that a day or two you might get a chance to get the download again.

on the bright side, at least the failed install did not brick your phone.

I have been trying every couple days to install this update. It is still not installing. I have downloaded it again and even tried re-installing my phone's OS. It still isn't updating. I am going to go to the store and have them look at it.

I have used your hints and steps but it is still unsucessful. I am going to go to the store and see what can be done. I don't know if it is my phone or possibly another issue.

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if it will complete..

Enable Safe mode

  1. Power the device off.
Note Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
  2. Press and hold Menu.
  3. Power the device on.
Note Press and hold the Power button for 3-5 seconds.
  4. Hold the Menu button until Safe mode appears (located in the lower left).

Disable Safe Mode

  1. Power the device off.
Note Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
