Does ENV3 require data now or not?

    acraftylady

In another post an employee stated no data anymore for the ENV3 but when you browse phones it clearly states next to it $9.99 data plan or higher so which is it?  Website not update maybe to reflect this?  Thinking of ordering 2 and want to be sure before I do.    Mary

          Hello acraftylady,

Thanks for inquiring about the LG env3.  Since this device is considered to be 3G Multimedia it does require a data plan of $9.99 or higher in order to be activated.

Thanks.  Someone should alert Antonio the verizon rep that posted here so he is informed and not giving out wrong info.  Mary

I'll tell you what I found out yesterday for my Env touch. I believe that is in the same category as your phone.

I called the *611 line and was greeted by an Representative. She kept insisting that I needed a data plan for my phone if I deactivate and reactivated my phone. She also told me that SOMETIMES the system lets you get rid of the data plan and sometimes it doesn't. .....I don't know about you, but I find this extremely hard to believe. A computer won't just RANDOMLY let you do something like this so I feel like they are hiding something. The lady also mentioned something about a data block potentially working. After awhile, I eventually hung up because I was obviously getting no where on the phone.....Mind you, I had my Env Touch way before a data plan was 'required' for it. I also told the Representative that.

SOOOOOO then I did something that I normally don't do. I went to a physical verizon store and talked to a Manager. Here is what the Manager told me. "The Env Touch does NOT require a data plan anymore."(Yes, that was WORD FOR WORD) All you have to do is get a data block when you activate it. (paraphrased)

It seems that Verizon is trying to coerce people into thinking that they need a data plan for these phones when you really don't.

My advice: Go to a physical verizon store and ask. If they insist no, mention the data block. If you're still not getting anywhere, go to a different verizon store and try the same thing.

Well I was either going to order 2 certified like new ENV3's for hubby and son but I don't want to take the chance and then get stuck having to pay the $9.99 since it's sounds so iffy or having to return and find something else.   I think I will just get hubby and son new octane's or something else.  If it does not require data they need to take it off the website and quit screwing with people and be clear on this.  None us need or want internet and since I love my ENV3 that is why I wanted to get them for hubby and son.    Mary

Thank you everyone for your inquiries and I apologize for the confusion. For any multimedia phone that was purchased after 1/18/10, the phone is technically required to have a data plan. The phone categories have since changed, and any phone that is classified as a feature phone does not require the data plan. The LG enV3 is a multimedia phone and unless it was previously activated on an account before 1/18/10, the data plan is required. The store representative mentioned in previous post, may have been offering to remove the package after it was activated, but that cannot be guaranteed.

Thanks.  I got mine before the data requirement and love this phone.  I thought as much about the data but was just wondering since I saw that post.  Mary

i agree these data plans are a scam. i purchased a brigade and was told i had to have $9.99 plan or higher. less than a month later a friend had same phone he told me he wasnt required to have data plan so i called vzn and sure enough i didnt need it so i cancelled data, iif i hadn't seen him i woulda been paying for plan that wasnt required.

What did it say next to that phone online?  The ones that require data clearly state it next to the phone so you know that before you buy it, well the ENV3 did anyway when they started requiring it.    Mary

It says online that the Env Touch requires data, when in fact it does not.
