green blinking light: New Notification
green constant light: Battery is fully charged
red blinking light:: Your battery is REAL low
red constant light: Battery is to low to power on
purple light: New IM or message on Chat app.
The Handcent messaging app also has settings for assigning colors. Also Blink, available in marketplace is a notification app that sets this color for specific notifications.

I also forgot to mention that when in a sleep mode, the purple light will blink on occassion to let you know the device isn't in a powered off state. You can usually only notice it when it's very dark.

crb79 explained it perfectly but keep on mind there is a number of messaging and other apps has tendency to change the alerts led colors. Just thought I would point this out to avoid possible confusion if you install one of these type of apps.

Is it bad that mine never blinks when it's on the charger or fully charged?? The only time mine blinks is when I have a new text/voicemail/missed call, or when I receive an email.

That is kind of strange because this is a default feature but some 3rd party apps can disable this feature and there is a good chance you may have installed on of these apps without knowing that it would impact the notification light... SMS Chat and K9 email client is two that I have noticed that does this on some devices.

Hmm. The only apps I have besides games are Handcent and Facebook. Even before downloading those, when I first got the phone and charged it, it didn't light up when fully charged. Odd. It's not a big deal to me, as I can just wake up the screen and tell. I charge it at night anyway, I just find it odd that it never did that.

Ditto here. Only the green flashing LED. No other colors, ever. No messaging apps installed. No red flashing when battery low, or otherwise.

The LEDs only display while the screen is turned off. However I do remember the solid green light only being lit on one occassion when I charged my phone with the power completely off. The orange light also came on once when I was down to 20% power.
