Ask to be sent to iphone tech support. Be patient. The tech support guy I talked to thanked me for being nice and said that mostly people get all worked up and that really does not help to solve the problem. I agree with that. I'm also trusting they call me back. That was 11:00 am central time and it is 2:30 and I'm waiting. Patiently.
I tried to activate through itunes. It synced and everything but activation didn't work. Now neither the iphone or my old blackberry will allow me to make calls so I can't even call customer service because I don't have a landline. When I try calling the 800 number and the *611 it works BUT it goes to cingular... Any advice?
Tech support just called me back. Asked me some questions. Still no resolution. They say when the number was assigned to me, somehow it was not tagged to my account and this needs to happen in order to activate. When I pre-ordered, I added a line to our account. This line was never put on my account but the iphone was shipped to me. That's all I know.
The same thing happened to me - but this resolved it. I went ahead and restored it back to factory. Gave Verizon a call. The CS rep told me that what was hanging it up was accepting or not accepting the insurance??? Anyway, after I made that choice (which I had already done) he told me to dial *228. It activated immediately.
I am having the same problem!!! Actually I used an upgraded line to buy the iphone. I synced using itunes, then called customer service to switch the numbers from my Droid X to the iphone. The Droid X changed numbers fine, but the iphone won't work. It set up and everything, and even the correct number is showing in the iphone, but it will not make a call!!!
I am now on hold for tech support but what is going on with this? Has anyone been able to solve this problem?
Check the MEID in the settings of your phone, and check the one on your box. I was on hold for about an hour earlier only to find out the wrong phone was put in to the box. A CSR is supposed to call me back tonight when they're able to switch them tonight, I read on some other forums it has happened to a few people.
I had the exact same problem. The MEID printed on my customer receipt does NOT match the MEID stored in the phone. AND the phone I received had someone else's phone number listed. I am pretty sure either Verizon sent me the wrong phone (with mis-matched MEID) or the ID numbers were screwed up in their system somehow.
I was promised a call back by technical support but so far nothing. I tried to call them but was on hold for 20 minutes then I quit. It's been very frustrating!!
When I first activated mine in itunes, it got hung up. I disconnected from the phone and restarted itunes. Then reconnected the phone and it went thru it stuff and I went ahead and let it update to the latest OS 4.26. After I disconnected, I dialed *228 to finish it too be sure. I hope that helps. I have also had my phone for 24 hours and cannot activate it because the MEIDs and serial numbers do not match. I've called VZW 4 times and all they say is they're working on it. I'm calling them back again shortly to get another update. I will post here when it is resolved.
Apparently, if you ordered your iphone online last week with adding a new line to your account, it won't be eligible for activation until the 10th. So, even though you have your phone in hand and your data may work, the actually phone line won't be activated until the 10th.
that's what Verizon Customer Service AND Sales departments told me.
Would be nice if they communicated that to the public.
i purchased the iphone on another phones upgrade with intent to swap it to my phone and had the same problem yall were having..all i had to do was switch the iphone line back to the old phone so the iphone has no connected number then turn off the phone with the line i wanted the iphone to be on and dial *228 from the iphone..press 1 then it will ask which number i want to add it to and i entered the 10 digit phone number then it asks for my billing password and i entered it and then it activated my phone..hope this helps
