I'm in China- before I left USA the Verizon global support rep told me to buy a local sim chip then set up a forwarding number on my iPhone. I followed her instruction -- after I installed a sim chip at Shanhai airport, I set up a forwarding on the web and also by pressing *72 + local number. The Verizon rep's instruction didn't work - when I put the Chinese sim number it says invalid number. I tried many times but it didn't work. Please help bc I don't want to spend $10 /day for texting and more fees for calls to USA.
Star codes to forward only work when connected to Verizon network, which you are not.
You cannot forward to non US numbers.

6096498468, when you are so far from home we know how important it is to remain in contact. We do want to cover all options. Call Forwarding would not forward messages, strictly phone calls. Is the number that you have selected for forwarding a total of 10 digits long? Calls can only be forwarded to numbers 10 digits long. Calls can't be forwarded to an international number, as listed under number 7 at http://spr.ly/66081nD6e. As you are using that international SIM card, you also have the option of providing friends and family with that international number so they may contact you.
