They were wrong, as repeated in this thread.
1. Verizon is not shutting down it's 3G network for another two years, that means any phone that is currently active on the system will be good at least until then even if they are not voice over LTE compatible. No new activations of CDMA-only phones will be allowed.
2. Next time you make a phone call look at your notification bar. If it says H or H plus your phone has dropped to 3G/cdma. If your phone has 'VoLTE' In the notification bar then it is voice over LTE capable
