Yet another iPhone 7 trade-in question

I preordered the iPhone 7 on 9/9, before the new trade in promo went into effect.  I'd love to trade in my spare iPhone 5S for the $400 credit.

How do I do this after the fact?  Do I have to wait until the 7 is activated on my account or can I do it online or in store ahead of time?
