Well it worked except my deleted voice mail box is now missing

That's normal when all the messages have been deleted from the voicemail server

I found this somewhere on the web and it worked for me:  Turn off wifi, turn on airplane mode, delete, turn off airplane mode, turn on wifi.  fixed!

The airplane mode hack works for me, too, but this has been going on for years.  And it doesn't work perfectly—when you delete a message it's deleted permanently; there's no deleted mail box.  Not a huge issue, but it is an issue.

It's ridiculous that it hasn't been fixed in the software.  Apple blames Verizon, Verizon blames Apple.

I've done that and shortly after going back into normal mode they all reappear.
