New iPhone 6s Plus killing data! Why??

Ever since I upgraded from my iPhone 6 in December, my 6s plus had blown through data, using 10G with the same amount of usage I was doing with my 6. Even after I adjusted different things and turned off wifi assist. What gives?!?! I can't afford this data!!! We used to be able to share 6G a month, no problem. I had to upgrade to 10G plan and we STILL had overage. I'm kind of wishing I never upgraded. Can someone please help?

Same with my iPhone 6+.

Data just disappears even after restricting all kinds of background data usage.

I dumped it and got another type of phone.

Is iCloud Drive enabled anywhere with "Use Mobile data" selected? How about App Updates?

Check the data usage on Settings > Cellular. Is System Services high on the list?

smith6612, made a good point on app updates. GarageBand 2.1 was released today for iPhone 6s Plus which I updated. It is a 1.09 GB update. Yes just that one app.

I only have iCloud Drive enabled for Apple Music on cellular. Nothing else has cellular data enabled. I turned off automatic downloads because I knew how much that could eat up the data.

Santanasak87, I have the iphone 6s Plus and over a 20 day period between Jan.1 thru Jan. 20 it used zero Verizon mobile data and the phone was used extensively with data usage applications. The 6s+ can use large amounts of data if you don't have it set up not to do so.

A few of the settings to look into that you may have missed:

Settings > General > Background App Refresh

Settings > Cellular > Use Cellular Data For

Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Use Cellular Data > Use Cellular network for automatic updates

Settings > Privacy > Location Services

  And I probably missed something.

If you have Comcast Xfinity in your area, I'm in New England. It is well worth having an internet account with them for $30 per month. By having one and using your Xfinity username & password with a one time login I'm able to use their Wi-Fi. The advantage to that is, I not only use no Verizon mobile data, but the speeds are a lot faster than Verizon mobile data gives you, with hotspots everywhere. So I'm able to leave Cellular OFF. And with the iPhone 6s plus, even if you have Verizon Cellular & Wi-Fi turned off you can still use the phone and do basic text messages. So if you have Xfinity in your area I would highly recommend using it, or check with a large internet carrier in your area that may offer the same type service.

This is a link to Xfinity that explains how it works.

Isn't that possible with any phone?

nechpech, I thought you couldn't with the Droid Maxx but I forget, where iMessages uses Apple servers there could be a difference. I didn't conduct a survey though I'll leave that up to you.

But what I am 100% sure of is the iPhone 6s Plus can be easily set up to use zero data.

Salisbury, thank you for that info. Nechpech, if your usage has not changed that is strange that your data usage would go up. Looking through the your cellular data screen did it indicate what apps was using all that data?

THIS: Go to Settings > Cellular > Scroll way down to "WiFi Assist". TOGGLE THIS OFF! It will cause you to use a lot of data if your wifi is weak or fails! Otherwise, just turn cellular off for anything not neccessary. Also stay on WiFi as much as possible. There's nothing wrong with your phone or the OS. You might also go to Settings >Privacy> location services > scroll down to system services > Toggle Frequent Location off.
